Kim Gørtz

I finished Copenhagen University in 1997 with a Cand. mag. in Philosophy and a minor in Psychology. In 2010 I earned a Ph.D.at Aarhus University, and in 2012 a Master’s in Business Coaching. I work as an Associate Professor at RUC and CBS (from 1998) and as senior consultant at the Copenhagen Coaching Centre (from 2009). As an educator, counsellor, coach, and lecturer, I focus on philosophical models, methods, and thinking as they relate to leadership development, coaching, and value development in organisations and process designs. Since the start of the present millennium, I have published 13 books and numerous articles.

I wrote Realise yourself, man because I needed space in the interest of myself and men, to carry on, and no less to give myself the opportunity to find the words for reflection on the thoughts that surround men’s life – which is relevant for our time.

I have a hope that the book will produce food for thought among the male – and among the female – readers, and that the book’s information, tips, and invitations will be taken

as gains and acted upon.

My own life, the rock-hard confirmation of my own idiocy, and the unbelievability that it is possible to forget and lose oneself in daily life with all its tasks, has inspired me to write the book. As such there is no specific person, who awakened my inspiration – other than my own warped and rejected personality.

Especially the play with words, the idiomatic and rhythmic aspect, and the relatively direct tone are what I most appreciate in the text. But also that I can still feel, see, and become more aware of myself, when I reread passages that relate to the book.

I have no specific person as a role model, but rather many awarenesses, images, and feelings around the men, who are known to be serious, spiritual seekers, such as Krishna, Buddha, Jesus – but also a number of anonymous yogi, swamis, gurus, and zen masters…

I practice a lot of yoga and meditation, and I play and compose a good deal of music in synthesizer-ambient and etheric techno. I greatly appreciate reading special philosophically and spiritually oriented literature. To date my reading includes around 1500 books in western philosophic and psychological thinking. But from around 2011 I became particularly interested in Indian yogic philosophy, Tantric Buddhism, The Tibetan Book of the Dead, Dzogchen, and Zen Buddhism. I greatly appreciate dancing, eating properly for the stomach, and smoking Indian Beedies (mini-cigars).
